“Expression is itself transformation. This is the message art brings."
~ Stephen K. Levine

About Aroha

Aroha, a word from the Māori language, is often translated as love.
But its meaning runs deeper.
It speaks of a relational way of being.
one that holds compassion, empathy, presence,
and an affectionate connection with oneself, others, and the world.

Aroha is not just something we feel;
it is something we live.

In Sanskrit, a resonant parallel emerges in āroha (आरोह),
meaning ascent, rising, or an upward movement.
A quiet unfolding. A becoming.

Together, these meanings hold a shared essence:
a movement of the heart towards connection, towards compassion, towards light.

The expressive arts offer a natural pathway for this unfolding. They speak in a language beyond words— engaging the body, the senses, the emotions, and the imagination. Through image, movement, sound, and form, they allow what is often unseen or unspoken to find expression—safely, and with care. In this expression, something begins to transform.

About Expressive Arts Therapy

Art is one of humanity's oldest forms of expression. Long before words were written on a page, humans used images, sounds, movement, symbols, and ritual to express themselves, connect with one another, and make sense of their experiences.

To engage with the arts is to reconnect with something deeply human and instinctive within us. Creativity is not the domain of a gifted few—it is a birthright. Expressive arts invites us to reclaim this innate capacity, not to create perfect art, but to explore, express, and discover ourselves through the creative process.

Our Roots, Our Values

Like a tree draws strength from deep roots, we ground our practice in timeless principles

Compassion

Every heart deserves tenderness. We create spaces of unconditional acceptance where vulnerability becomes strength and authenticity blooms.

Nurturing

Like the seed knows how to become a tree, you carry innate wisdom for your own becoming. We nurture the conditions for natural, organic transformation.

Connection

No tree grows alone in the forest. We thrive in connection, witnessed and supported by others walking their own creative paths alongside us.

Vasvi’s journey with mental health and wellbeing began early in life with a deep curiosity about what drives human behaviour and shapes their inner worlds. After formal training in psychology with a specialisation in organisational psychology, she spent over seven years in Human Resources and leadership consulting with multinational organisations. Eventually, a desire to slow down and reconnect with herself brought her back to the arts — a lifelong source of healing and self-expression — revealing a path that beautifully merged psychology, creativity, and wellbeing.

Today, Vasvi is a certified Expressive Arts Therapy Practitioner, Organisational Psychologist, and trained Yoga Teacher with over a decade of experience facilitating transformative wellbeing spaces for diverse populations across sectors including - education, social impact, and corporates. Through Aroha Expressive Arts, she integrates creative arts with mindfulness, yoga, and nature-based practices to support emotional, mental, somatic, and spiritual wellbeing.
My work is my sacred calling, and one of my greatest joys is witnessing people light up with childlike wonder as they step into spaces of creativity, imagination, spontaneity, and play. I deeply cherish those breakthrough moments when the creative process opens unexpected pathways — offering fresh insights, new perspectives, and a sense of possibility to those who may have felt stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected in their everyday lives.

The Heart of her Work

At the heart of Vasvi’s practice is a socially inclusive, trauma-sensitive approach rooted in compassion. She creates safe, non-judgemental spaces where individuals, groups, and communities can reconnect with themselves through creativity, play, embodiment, and reflection. Rather than focusing on fixing or diagnosing, Vasvi’s work invites people to access their inner wisdom, cultivate resilience, and rediscover more authentic and meaningful ways of being.

Much of Vasvi’s work is devoted to bringing people together through the expressive arts to nurture empathy, trust, and personal and collective transformation. In an increasingly disconnected world, where virtual connections abound yet genuine human connection is often lacking, she believes that creative, community-oriented spaces are more important than ever—offering a sense of belonging, shared humanity, and the healing that comes from being truly seen and heard.

Stories of transformation, healing, and creative awakening

I realized we needed such safe, non-judgemental, therapeutic spaces more often. Especially when we are so consumed with work, a space like this helped me be in the present and enjoy, feel and connect with my thoughts and that of others. It just helped us heal and gave us a little bit of hope that there are people there who can understand us.

It helped me let go for a while and just be, perceive and live. It helped me meet individuals I never thought to interact with. It helped me end my day positively. It made me laugh and that’s pretty darn helpful to everyone.

I realized that I haven’t been in touch with art just for therapy or expressing and understanding myself or my thoughts. Through movement exploration I realised that my posture or stance in life at this time is perfect, in whatever way it is. I felt very good about myself today. I felt like I could accept myself wholly whatever I am.

On the whole it was an amazing experience and I personally suggest each and everyone irrespective of education, age, background etc. to take part in such sessions if you get an opportunity and I am really waiting for such an exciting experience again.

Interesting and relaxing. It felt like a short visit to a temple nearby home.

The major thing is being yourself is fun and there are so many people like us around and it's actually not so complicated to find them. The second lesson I learnt was that expressing emotions does not always require words as we expressed our feelings through gestures and clay art. And introspection really helps to ease in! Initially the feeling of being judged didn't completely leave us but I think by the end all of us felt accepted which brought the feeling of calmness !! Simply just being ourselves is the key!
